Focus is a wearable designed to help young drivers stay focused on the road ahead. Positioned on the right ear, the wearable identifies the line of sight of the user and sends out an alert if it senses the driver has become distracted.
While Focus’ technology applies to most general distractions, it is specifically designed to detect cell phone usage while driving. The current working prototype uses both Arduino and Processing and was made at New York University over the course of two weeks as a part of the the final project for Physical Computing.
The future of Focus pairs this valuable technology with a smartphone application, letting parents know how their new driver is doing. If the reports show a dangerous trend, a parent can temporarily disable their teens phone until they return home safely.
